Berliner Meeting at Strathmore, Thurs 10/15

Roger Berliner, Vice-President of the Montgomery County Council, has periodic meetings in his district (which includes White Flint and the surrounding communities). His next meeting will be on Thursday, October 15, at 7:30PM, in the gorgeous Mansion at Strathmore. For directions and other information on Strathmore, see www.strathmore.org.

Berliner will likely play a pivotal role in the coming debate over the White Flint Sector Plan. Opponents of the Plan have already asked their supporters to come in colored T-Shirts, which seems to be becoming something of a tradition at Plan-related meetings. At the last meeting, supporters of the White Flint Plan came out in green T-shirts. Opponents wore yellow T-shirts to the Sept 22 Council hearing on the Annual Growth Policy. Now some groups are promising “new” T-shirts at each meeting; not sure how that will play out, but it sounds fun, or at least colorful. (I confess a bit of bias in this evaluation, since I am known for wearing colorful . . . [ahem] OK, “loud” . . . shirts. Think Tony Soprano, except mine come from Kohl’s and Wal-Mart, and don’t cost $200 apiece.)

Anyway, Roger Berliner has already played an important role in the White Flint planning process. He is the spark behind the “Sustainable Transportation Corridor” proposal which Friends of White Flint has joined, to get more money and intergovernmental cooperation in rebuilding the Pike. It should be an interesting meeting.
