I came across an interesting chart this evening. It was produced by the American Public Transit Association, www.publictransportation.org, and it shows that taking public transit makes a lot more difference in your own personal carbon emissions “footprint” than anything else you can do:

David Alpert in Greater Greater Washington, www.greatergreaterwashington.org, offers a new look at where leaders fall on the “sprawl-smart growth” spectrum. He uses a four-box matrix to determine if someone is a “sprawler” or not.
He reviewed Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett’s recent pronouncements on the West Gaithersburg and White Flint proposed master plans, and came to the conclusion that “he’s a sprawler.” Alpert notes:
Leggett is entitled to his opinion, but he should stop calling sprawl projects “Smart Growth” while opposing actual Smart Growth.
