I understand that a draft resolution is being circulated, and except for a solemn promise to have a draft ready for introduction before the last Council meeting before they break for vacation in the end of July (July27) there is no information. I will continue to monitor the situation, and get a copy of whatever is approved by the County Executive for discussion among us White Flinters.

I might be a cynic, but I feel this might be his attempt by the County Executive to sabotage the implementation of the plan. Although I have strongly supported the White Flint as have the majority of those who currently live in White Flint, the possibility of increased taxes to current and future residents will certainly erode that support. This issue needs to be resolved quickly.

I am not really surprised the county exec office wants to find a way to get more money out of new development projects in white flint that could potentially generate additional tax revenue for county coffers. That being said the county exec office really needs to show some integrity and keep their word.

1) Is NOT devoted solely to White Flint – a similar district could be established ANYWHERE in the County – including “land in any municipality”

2) Staff specifically demurred about putting this issue in front of Council prior to either the Sept primary or the Nov elections – a more cynical mind might wonder if this was a deliberate to avoid voter backlash on a stealth maneuver to raise residential property taxes in a thinly-disguised “Robin Hood scheme” …….
