Zappos Founder Tackles New Urbanism

Tony Hsieh, founder and CEO of online retailer Zappos.com, is using the strength of his company’s personnel and bankroll to reinvigorate downtown Las Vegas.  Hsieh has announced that he is moving the company’s headquarters, and over 1,000 employees, from a suburban office park into what he has termed “the Downtown Project.” Likening the move toward a more dense, mixed-use and walkable community as one improving upon the real-life “social network,” Hsieh hopes to catapult a nearly-discarded neighborhood into the next New Urban destination.
