Metro will shut down the Red Line north of Grosvenor-Strathmore this Saturday and Sunday. On August 13 and 14 there will be no train service at the Shady Grove, Rockville, Twinbrook or White Flint stations. Metro plans to run shuttle buses to and from those stations Inspections were ordered following a derailment last month which found issues outside the Twinbrook station that require a complete shutdown to repair. The repairs at a point where trains switch from one track to the other are in a similar type of area as the location where a Silver Line train derailed near East Falls Church July 29.
This is in addition to the Red Line SafeTrack Surge that began today during which:
Trains will serve Shady Grove and Rockville stations every 18 minutes.
All other Red Line stations will have near-normal service with additional trains operating between Twinbrook and Glenmont and between Grosvenor-Strathmore and Silver Spring during weekday rush hours.
