Cava Founders To Open New French Mediterranean Coffee Shop and Restaurant in Pike & Rose

According to Bethesda Beat:

The owners of a hometown restaurant chain that’s expanded across the country are returning to the area for their next concept.

Julii, from the founders of Cava, will open in Pike & Rose, according to Federal Realty, the developer of the North Bethesda community.

Focusing on French Mediterranean food, Julii will be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It will serve items including croissants, roasted chicken and shakshouka, an egg, tomato and onion dish. The restaurant also will include a coffee shop, according to a press release.

“Rockville and North Bethesda have always been important to us,” Ted Xenohristos, a Cava founder and Julii owner, said in a statement. “We grew up in this community, it is where we started our first restaurant, it’s where we now live, and it’s the neighborhood we want to continue to draw people to from all over the DC metro area.”

County Executive Kicks Off Gift Outside the Box Campaign at Pike and Rose

Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett and the Department of Environmental Protection’s Acting Director Patty Bubar launched the County’s Gift Outside the Box holiday campaign on November 20. Other speakers included Executive Vice President of the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce Barbara Ashe and Director of Montgomery Parks Michael F. Riley.

The kick-off event took place at Pike & Rose located at 11920 Grand Avenue in North Bethesda. The DEP public awareness campaign aims to help residents make sustainable choices to reduce waste, support local businesses, and encourage volunteerism during the holiday season.

“This important holiday outreach effort challenges us to think about ways we can enjoy our holiday celebrations and reduce our impacts on the environment,” said Leggett. “I encourage all residents to ‘go greener’ the holiday season to protect our environment.”

The Gift Outside the Box campaign has five main themes:

  • Give to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle: Reduce waste by buying gifts made from recycled or reused materials and minimizing wrapping.
  • Gift Greener: Help the environment by greening how you buy and what you buy.
  • Give Back: Instead of a traditional gift, donate to charity or volunteer with others.
  • Gift Experiences: From theater tickets to Montgomery Parks classes, give your loved ones activities and experiences, instead of more stuff.
  • Buy Local: Support county businesses and purchase locally made products.

Check out the vision for the interim Wall Park

On Monday, the Parks Department presented the plan for the interim Wall Park.  As you probably know, once the new Wall Park/Shriver Aquatic Center garage is built, the current paved parking lot will be ripped up and replaced with much-needed green space. Here are some of the more essential slides from Monday’s presentation. (Click on each slide to enlarge.)
