The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) seeks public input on the potential expansion of dockless bikeshare beyond the current pilot area in Silver Spring and Takoma Park. Additional areas under consideration are Bethesda, North Bethesda (including White Flint), Friendship Heights, Chevy Chase, Veirs Mill and Wheaton. Input is also sought on whether to allow the use of pedal-assist, electric “e-bikes” and e-scooters in these areas.
Dockless bikeshare uses dockless bikes, self-locking bikes that do not require you to return them to a docking station. A mobile app is used to locate and unlock a bike to start a rental. At the end of the ride, the bike can be left at any location within the service area. Users must leave their locked bikes at appropriate locations, such as bike racks or curbside, etc. Users benefit from the flexibility of picking up and dropping off bikes easily and conveniently.
Friends of White Flint needs your feedback to help us formulate our official position on dockless bikeshare, e-bikes, and e-scooters in the White Flint/Pike District area. Tell us what you think by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
