Yesterday, County Executive Ike Leggett, MCDOT Director Al Roshdieh, and Councilmember Hans Reimer cut the ribbon on the new Nebel Street separated bike lanes.

The Nebel Street six-foot-wide bike lanes are one-way and located against the curb on either side of the street with flexposts separating them from moving vehicles. A striped buffer area provides additional protection for cyclists. …

New Stop Sign on Nebel and Marinelli

Early this morning, I was greeted with a surprise on Nebel Street — a stop sign at Marinelli Drive!  This intersection has come up several times at the Downtown Advisory Committee and the Implementation Advisory Committee but it had seemed like creating a three-way stop here would require much more study.

In January, we reported that MCDOT had plans to calm traffic and improve the travel experience on Nebel Street.  Engineer Kyle Liang of MCDOT was at the White Flint Downtown Advisory Committee to share some ideas on how that might look, and he returned this month with an update on their thinking.

On Tuesday morning, Kyle Liang of the Montgomery County Department of Transportation attended the latest meeting of the White Flint Downtown Advisory Committee.  He shared that MCDOT has been focused on improving pedestrian safety on the east side of the White Flint Sector and will begin with a project on Nebel Street.

Washington Gas Plans Communications Tower on Nebel Street Property

As Bethesda Now reported last week, Washington Gas is planning a 145-foot communications tower in the center of their property on Nebel Street, at the edge of the White Flint sector.  The primary purpose of the tower is to improve Washington Gas’ communications, particularly in times of emergency.  They are also open to leasing space on the tower to at least two cell providers.…

From MCDOT:

We have made some changes to the Marinelli Road Separated Bike Lanes design after meeting with Park & Planning and WMATA. We are eliminating the metered parking on the south side from Citadel to Nebel to improve the design. This will allow for more space in the bike lane, buffer and travel lane.
