Recently, Communities for Transit (CFT) joined Friends of White Flint as a community organization member and I spoke with David Hauck, the Executive Director, about the organization.  CFT is a local non-profit organization located in Silver Spring focusing on county and community needs. CFT’s mission is to build support for alternative transit methods in Montgomery County, specifically the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project.

We’ve learned that the post office within White Flint Mall will close for good this Friday, April 11th. The office will relocate to the Nicholson Lane Plaza Shopping Center in July but they were unable to extend their mall lease to bridge the gap while the new space is built out.

The Conference and Visitors Bureau of Montgomery County is hosting a fun photo contest – we’d like to see White Flint represented!   Asking us to “be a tourist in our own town,” the contest is looking to showcase everything our county has to offer for residents and visitors alike!

Updates on Washington Gas Fire and Communications Tower

The latest meeting of the White Flint Downtown Advisory Committee was a busy one.  In addition to discussion of road projects, Fire Chief Steven Lohr was present to recap the emergency response to last month’s event at the Washington Gas property on Nebel Street.

As Chief Lohr described, three employees were at the multiple-bay vehicle repair facility in the pre-dawn hours of February 12th.

La Madeleine Closed, but not for long

La Madeleine in Mid-Pike Plaza is now closed.  But, don’t fret, this community staple will return soon as part of Pike & Rose’s first phase.  Starting this fall, you’ll find La Madeleine in Block 12 (PerSei) of Pike & Rose.  Chipotle is also moving to Block 13, around the corner from Starbucks and Bank of America.
