In an article on StreetsBlog, cities making the most progress on protected bike lanes are seeing bicycling rates go up. Results indicate that a substantial share of people riding in the protected lane made bike trips because of the street redesign to add a cycle track.

Hopefully the planned bike lanes in the Pike District will have a similar effect!…

There are two important upcoming meetings in which you might want to participate. If you want to have input into the creation of the White Flint 2 Sector Plan and learn more about the many upcoming transportation projects in the White Flint 1 sector, these are the meetings to attend. (Friends of White Flint will be there, of course, and we’ll advocate at the meetings and report via our blog what transpired at the meetings.)

The advantages of protected bike lanes are many. Rather than bicyclists and drivers maneuvering and fighting for space, each has its own safe space for their preferred mode of travel, according to a recent study.
  • Across six cities, the study found a rise of ridership between 21% and 171% after the lanes were installed.
