Proposed Upcoming Work Session Schedule
The Staff memo for Thursday’s Montgomery County Planning Board meeting includes a proposed schedule for upcoming work sessions on the White Flint Sector Plan (the Planning Board does much of its work on particular details of the Sector Plan in work sessions; the White Flint Steering Committee comments to the Board during these sessions):
March 5 Worksession #3: Land Use and Zoning/Property Owners Presentations [see earlier post for more]
March 19 Worksession #4: Continuation of Land Use and Zoning/Property Owners Presentations; Public Facilities: School [siting for a new elementary school is a hot topic in the plan], MARC station [two competing proposals for location of a new commuter railroad station]
April 9 Worksession #5: Environment and Design Guidelines [Sustainability is a generally-accepted goal in the plan; but there is some disagreement about the amount of permeable land and green tree cover to be required] [the design guidelines are a new feature of this Master Plan process, and may change expectations and proposals without going through the full zoning process].
April 23 Worksession #6: Transportation, Staging and Implementation [this may be one of the first of the work sessions to combine topics and begin the process of integrating the myriad details into a final proposal to be reported out to the County Council; transportation is viewed by most observers as one of the most critical parts of the Sector Plan, since congestion is one of the major problems in the community, and transit is considered one of the principal solutions].
