Friends of White Flint Meeting
Wednesday, September 3rd
Georgetown Village Condominium
Safety for pedestrians and bicyclists is paramount in White Flint. If we want to encourage people to get out of their cars, we need to ensure they feel safe walking and biking. Earlier this week, a pedestrian succumbed to his injuries after being hit by a car while crossing Rockville Pike at Executive Boulevard. Last month, a young girl was hit by a car while biking across Tuckerman Lane. We can do better!
The White Flint Sector Plan is a 30-year endeavor but surely we cannot wait so long for improvements to our infrastructure. So, bring yourself and your ideas to Friends of White Flint’s next meeting. We’re planning a full discussion on what steps can be taken in the short term to improve our pedestrian and bicycling safety. County Councilmember Hans Riemer, who has been spearheading safety efforts and funding, is expected to attend. We’ve also invited other representatives from the county and state so we can better understand where our advocacy will have the most impact.
Our meeting will begin at 6:30pm in the Community Room at Georgetown Village Condominium. It’s on the second floor of the GVC Community Building at 11400 Commonwealth Drive. Enter the community from Nicholson Lane, between Old Georgetown Road and Executive Boulevard, and go straight on Commonwealth Drive for about two blocks. There’s a two-story Colonial-style building on the right with a parking lot. We’ll be on the second floor – there’s an elevator available. If that parking lot is full, there’s another, larger lot on the other side of Commonwealth.
All members are welcome – we’d love to see you! RSVPs are not required, but they are appreciated so we’re sure to have enough space. Just email us at info@WhiteFlint.org! Ready to have a voice in the future of White Flint and join our membership? Click here for more information.
